About Marivel Magsaysay (she/they)
I am a Filipino queer theatre and film artist, director, and writer based in Los Angeles, California. A first generation American, I find myself most drawn to character stories that deal with identity and crossing barriers.
With years of experience in the field of storytelling, I've had the privilege of working on many different sides of production. I am a trained professional sound designer with experience working on productions at Sarah Lawrence College, UCLA's Act III Ensemble, CSUN's Teenage Drama Workshop program, Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival, and numerous other production companies.
As an actor, I've worked on several short films including starring in Acceptance (2022), dir. Maile Ancheta, which tells the story of a young Filipino actress who struggles to see eye to eye with her immigrant mother. I've also had the privilege of working on a co-star role for an original tv show on BET+ called Angel (2023).
Additionally, I am a co-founder and the secretary of a local theatre and media nonprofit company called The 661 Arts and Entertainment Project which focuses on community engagement through storytelling from underrepresented groups.
Outside of work, you can find me teaching, playing music, practicing yoga, and caring for my house plants. I find that working on skills that take time to cultivate helps me with my patience and gratitude when living in this fast-paced world.
